Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival returns in December 2021

The Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club approved the return of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival in its next December 27 edition, after a two-year hiatus due to the Corona pandemic, during its periodic meeting chaired by Hussein Abdullah Al-Khoury.

Al-Itma’a discussed a number of matters that ensure the continuity of the work strategy applied by the club at the technical and administrative levels, which is in line with the directives of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in light of the preventive and precautionary measures during the period of the Corona pandemic.

The Board of Directors reviewed the report submitted by the Technical Committee on the club's activity and activities during the 2021 sports season, in addition to some recommendations, the most important of which is the contract with Ukrainian Adam Tokhayev (who holds the title of a senior international professor) to train the first team in the club to succeed Dutch coach Ivan Sokolov.

The meeting also discussed several topics raised on the agenda, on top of which was commissioning the Technical Committee to prepare a special study on the possibility of opening other branches of the club in different regions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in order to facilitate players wishing to play the game in remote areas.

The board of directors approved the club’s strategy to spread the game, which is based on a number of axes, topped by school chess, which is the strong basis on which to build in the future. The Technical Committee is currently studying the proposed locations for the establishment of branches based on a thorough study based primarily on the number of players and their places of residence, with the aim of overcoming difficulties and increasing the number of practitioners.

In its meeting, the Board of Directors directed the Technical Committee to form a special workshop for the 27th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival, which is expected to start next December, and to present a comprehensive study to direct the festival in its best form.

For his part, Hussein Abdullah Khoury thanked the wise leadership for the permanent support for sports and athletes in the country. He also thanked the Abu Dhabi Sports Council headed by His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who pays special attention to the game of chess and supports the tournaments organized by the club on a permanent basis. Contributed to the further development of the game at the level of the Emirates in general.
